Justice captain from the Irkutsk region sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for comments on Telegram

The 2nd Eastern District Military Court sentenced 63-year-old justice captain from the Irkutsk region, Sergey Taltykin*, to two and a half years in a general regime colony, accused of «justifying terrorism» due to comments on Telegram, the court's press service reported.

Along with the actual sentence, Taltykin was fined 300 thousand rubles and given a year of restricted freedom. The court also stripped the man of his military rank of senior lieutenant and special ranks of justice captain and major of the internal service. In addition, he was banned from corresponding via email and messengers for four years.

Earlier, Taltykin was included in the list of «extremists and terrorists».

As noted by «Mediazona»**, in Taltykin's case card on the court's website, it is indicated that he is accused under articles of «justifying terrorism», «calls for extremism», and calls for «activities aimed against state security», but the court's release mentions only the first of these.

According to the investigation, Taltykin opposed the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Telegram, supported the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and called for providing «moral and financial» support to Ukrainian military personnel. He published comments with «justification of terrorist acts» and calls for «hostile, violent actions against Russian citizens».
