A worker was injured, the Ministry of Defense reported eight drones shot down over the region

On the night of January 31, Ukrainian drones attacked the Volgograd region. A fire broke out at the largest oil refinery in the Southern Federal District, Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka, as a result of the attack, injuring one worker, reported Governor Andrey Bocharov.

“As a result of the debris from one of the UAVs falling on the refinery's territory, a fire occurred, which was promptly extinguished. One injured worker from the plant was hospitalized,” local media quoted the governor.

As Shot writes, local residents heard explosions and gunfire near the enterprise around three o'clock in the morning.

The Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka plant is one of the largest producers of petroleum products in the Southern Federal District. The plant's capacity is 14.8 million tons. In 2024, the refinery was attacked twice by Ukrainian drones. On May 12, a drone strike caused a fire at the AVT-1 primary oil processing unit, which provides almost 59% of the plant's capacity. As a result, it ceased operations for several days.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that eight Ukrainian drones were shot down in the Volgograd region overnight. According to the department, another 25 drones were destroyed in the Rostov region, eight in Volgograd, six in Kursk, four in Yaroslavl, and two each in the Belgorod, Voronezh regions, and the Krasnodar Territory.

“One of the shot-down drones fell on a car driving on the highway. The driver sustained a leg injury,” reported Voronezh region Governor Alexander Gusev. “Also, as a result of UAV fragments falling in the same area, a private residential house and a farm were damaged.”
