Resident of Zaporizhzhia region sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of three terrorist attacks

According to law enforcement, a 24-year-old young man, together with his 33-year-old acquaintance, blew up three locomotives in Melitopol

The Southern District Military Court sentenced 24-year-old resident of the Zaporizhzhia region, Maksim Timofeev, to 20 years in prison on charges of blowing up trains, the court's press service reported. He will spend the first three years in prison, the remainder of the term — in a high-security colony. Timofeev was also fined 600,000 rubles.

Timofeev, along with his 33-year-old acquaintance Maksim Vorobyov, is accused of blowing up three locomotives in the Melitopol depot, which occurred on April 5 and 22, 2023, as well as June 12, 2023. No details about the damage were reported. The young men were found guilty of committing three terrorist attacks, «participation in a terrorist community», «facilitating terrorist activities», and possession of explosives.

All proceedings were closed, the Ukrainian «Center for Investigative Journalism» considers the case «fabricated».

Meanwhile, Vorobyov, who, according to the investigation, «persuaded his acquaintance Timofeev to join the community», received a sentence in October last year, which was more lenient — 16 years in prison and a fine of 500,000 rubles.
