He was detained in October 2023 and charged with five 'terrorist' articles

The judge of the 2nd Western District Military Court closed the session on the case of 18-year-old resident of Kursk, Gagik Grigoryan, accused under 'terrorism' articles, to listeners and the press. Bailiffs prohibited any filming in the court and did not allow the family of the defendant and listeners who came to the session, reported Sotavision**.

A member of the 'Left Socialist Action' (LevSD) and the 'Russian Social-Democratic Union of Youth' (RSDUY) Gagik Grigoryan was detained in October 2023 at the age of 17. Almost immediately, he was included in the Rosfinmonitoring register of 'extremists and terrorists'. The young man was charged under five articles related to 'terrorist activities'.

Almost nothing is known about the accusation; in his letter from the pre-trial detention center, Grigoryan stated that in addition to the article on the terrorist act, he is accused of storing explosives and 'preparing the liquidation of a lieutenant colonel of the Russian army'.

The human rights project 'Zone of Solidarity' and representatives of 'LevSD' believe that his persecution is 'either fabrications or some kind of provocation by law enforcement agencies', and the closed hearing of the case indirectly confirms the lack of evidence of the teenager's guilt by the investigation.

* Included in the list of 'terrorists and extremists'.
** Recognized in Russia as a 'foreign agent' and 'undesirable' organization.
