The court in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky sent local public figure Alexey Petrov to the detention center for two months in the case of 'public calls for terrorism', reported the Telegram channel 'Kamchatka Life'.
The criminal case against 52-year-old Alexey Petrov was initiated due to a comment in August 2020 on a publication about COVID vaccines on social networks. He suggested administering the vaccine to the 'Kremlin Kashchey' in the hope that the virus would take him.
The decision to initiate a criminal case stated that according to the conclusion of a comprehensive psychological-political-linguistic study, the phrase about Kashchey contains a call to encroach on the life of a state figure — the President of the Russian Federation. This became the reason for the criminal prosecution.
As Petrov's lawyer Oksana Sheremet told the publication, the court decided to take her client into custody until March 6. Petrov faces up to seven years in prison.
In Petropavlovsk, Petrov is well known as a public activist with liberal views, who collaborated with a number of regional politicians. From 2020 to 2024, Alexey lived in Moscow with his wife and daughter, where he worked as a technical specialist in one of the companies, notes 'Kamchatka Life'.
