On the night of January 3, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with Shahed-type strike drones, launched in waves.
As reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at midnight a group of drones flew from the Sumy region towards Poltava and westward. Subsequently, several groups of drones were detected in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, and Donetsk regions. Within minutes, Shaheds were detected in the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Cherkasy regions.
In one of the districts of the Kyiv region, a truck driver died from injuries caused by the debris of a downed UAV, according to the military administration. "In another district, debris from a downed UAV fell on a private house, causing a roof fire. Three people were injured. A woman born in 1957 had an acute stress reaction. A 16-year-old boy had a cut. He will be hospitalized in a children's hospital. His father had cut wounds on his legs," the report says.
In another locality in the capital region, a woman was injured on the street.
On the night of January 3, Russia launched 93 drones at Ukraine, and air defense failed to shoot down a third of them, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The attack was carried out with strike drones and various types of decoy drones from the directions of Bryansk, Millerovo, and Orel.
The military confirmed the downing of 60 strike UAVs. Air defense operated in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
