Due to the refusal of the Moldovan side to settle the debt for gas supplies, deliveries will be stopped from January 1, 2025, Gazprom announced.
JSC «Moldovagaz» was sent a notification of non-fulfillment of payment obligations under the current contract, which is a significant violation of its terms. In this regard, based on the provisions of the contract and applicable Russian legislation, Gazprom suspends gas supplies.
According to the Russian side, the current debt of the Moldovan company for gas is more than 700 million dollars, including delays, and in 2023 Moldova agreed to pay only 8.6 million dollars of the debt following an audit.
In «Moldovagaz», it was stated that gas volumes from Europe for the country's residents (excluding Transnistria) are already contracted until the end of March. The Prime Minister of the Republic, Dorin Recean, issued a statement in which he did not recognize the debt and threatened to go to court to «protect national interests».
The Prime Minister of Moldova stated that his country is ready to challenge Gazprom's decision in the International Court of Arbitration.
