The secretary of the Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Metropolitan, 26-year-old Danil Sidorov, was detained in a case of sexual assault. On the evening of November 10, a masked man blocked the path of a 19-year-old girl at the entrance of a residential building and attempted to rape her, grabbing her in intimate areas. The incident was caught on the intercom camera. The 19-year-old student encountered him at the entrance door. The girl's mother saved her by running out to her screams.
Sidorov was detained two weeks later at the airport, and he confessed to the crime. On November 25, the court imposed a ban on certain actions on the man, and today it became known that Sidorov will avoid responsibility — he went to the combat zone. The attention to the post of the Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Metropolitan Eugene was drawn by "Caution, news". According to him, the priest will never be able to serve as a priest again, but "he managed to convincingly and sincerely ask for — and received forgiveness from the people he offended".
"Today he began a different service — to the Motherland and its defense. Now, as a private in the airborne assault platoon, he will not sit in the headquarters, but on the battlefield, he will bring the fruits of repentance through selflessness and military labor. In accordance with the order determined by the President and by the dictates of his conscience, he departed to the place of military service. And I, in prayers, entrust him to the hands of the Merciful Lord," the metropolitan stated.
Sidorov is 26 years old, he is a native of Tyumen, and since 2020 he worked as a secretary-referent for the Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Metropolitan Eugene. The church court, after the incident, removed Sidorov from the staff of the diocese. The man has a wife and a young son.
