The project 'Transparency International-Russia in Exile', according to the Ministry of Justice, spreads 'unreliable information' about the Russian authorities and their decisions, forms a negative image of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and opposes the war in Ukraine. The basis for inclusion in the register also included interaction with 'foreign agents' and 'undesirable' organizations.
Similar claims were made by the agency against the editor of the investigative journalism center 'Resonance' Danila Belyakov and rapper Ligalize (Andrey Menshikov). The latter was also accused of participating as a respondent on information platforms provided by foreign media.
The media project 'Country and World. Sakharov Review', launched by the team of the Moscow Sakharov Center, liquidated by the Russian authorities for free intellectual discussion, is accused by the Russian agency of 'unreliable information' about the Russian authorities and cooperation with 'foreign agents'.
'Meduza' journalist Alexey Kovalev opposed the war in Ukraine, 'formed a negative image' of the Russian authorities and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and participated in the dissemination of messages and materials of 'foreign agents' to an unlimited audience. A separate claim by the Ministry of Justice noted his residence outside the Russian Federation.
Priest of the Apostolic Orthodox Church Andrey Lvov, as reported by the Ministry of Justice, participated in the creation and dissemination 'to an unlimited audience' of messages and materials of 'foreign agents', spread 'unreliable information about the decisions made by the public authorities of the Russian Federation and their policies'.
The unified register of 'foreign agents' has been maintained since December 1, 2022, and currently contains almost 900 entries. 'Foreign agents' must report their income, indicate labeling when publishing any material or post. Failure to comply with these requirements leads to administrative liability, and repeated administrative fines may result in criminal liability.
The State Duma passed a law prohibiting the placement of advertisements with 'foreign agents', and 'foreign agents' themselves are prohibited from participating in elections. This week, a law was passed according to which all income of 'foreign agents' in Russia, including the sale and rental of real estate, will be deposited into a special ruble account, which can only be accessed after the 'foreign agent' status is removed.
