Evgeny Kim filed a lawsuit for the protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation against the publication «Yakutia.Info». The reason was a publication titled «Yakut fraudster awarded in Chechnya for «good deeds», in which journalists listed the crimes for which he was convicted.
In 2018, Kim was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security colony for fraud and threats of murder. 25 people suffered from the actions of Kim and his accomplices, and the total damage amounted to about 21 million rubles. According to the prosecutor's office and local media, Kim fraudulently acquired apartments that mainly belonged to orphans and lonely people. Later, he left prison to go to war as part of the Wagner PMC.
As reported by the publication 14news, Kim did not like that the article «negatively portrayed his combat achievements», moreover, in his opinion, this could cause «negative attitudes towards participants of the Special Military Operation». He also did not like the focus of the material on his criminal past.
