The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced a 30-year-old resident of Zheleznogorsk in the Kursk region, Sergey Chernookiy, accused of 'treason' and 'terrorism', to 22 years in prison, reported 'Mediazona'* citing the court's press service.
The first five years of imprisonment the man must spend in prison, the remaining term — in a strict regime colony. He was also fined 400 thousand rubles and given two years of restricted freedom. The case was heard in a closed session in the Kursk Regional Court.
According to the investigation, Sergey Chernookiy collected data on the region's transport infrastructure facilities for the SBU and participated in the detonation of a pyrotechnic device in front of the public reception of an unnamed political party in Zheleznogorsk. In addition, he allegedly was part of a terrorist group that organized an arson in a 'branch of a charitable organization' in Kursk.
The court noted that Chernookiy is a native of Ukraine but a citizen of Russia. The regional judicial system's press service reported that the convicted 'admitted guilt and repented', stating that he succumbed to 'informational propaganda'.
