The State Duma adopted a law on expanding the list of 'terrorists and extremists'

Now you can be included for an LGBT flag*, a Facebook badge*, as well as for 'discrediting' the Russian army and spreading military 'fakes'

The State Duma adopted a law in both the second and third readings that expands the powers of Rosfinmonitoring, reported the TASS agency.

The document expands the list of grounds for including individuals in the list of 'extremists and terrorists': now they can be added after a conviction that has come into force for recognizing a person guilty of promoting or displaying Nazi or extremist attributes or symbols. This could be a photo of a rainbow flag or a Facebook badge.

Also, grounds for inclusion in the list may be the public dissemination of 'knowingly false information' about the use of the Russian army and the execution of state bodies' powers, or public actions aimed at 'discrediting' the use of Russian Armed Forces.

In addition, the adopted law extends the legislation on combating money laundering and financing terrorism to the financing of 'extremist activities'. Rosfinmonitoring will gain access to information from credit organizations about the accounts of persons who financially support 'extremism' and 'extremists'.

At the same time, the list of crimes classified as extremist will include articles on murder, intentional infliction of harm to health, torture and infliction of grievous bodily harm, hooliganism, if these acts are committed out of political, national, racial, or religious hatred.

* The international LGBT movement and the owner of Facebook Meta are recognized in Russia as 'extremist' organizations.
