The new list of pardoned includes 11 women and 18 men. Six of the pardoned are under 25 years old, three are pensioners. 15 people have chronic illnesses, two have disabilities. It is noted that all of them repented of their actions and applied for clemency.
This is the seventh pardon in Belarus in half a year. A total of 207 people, whom human rights activists considered political prisoners, have already been released in 2024. Meanwhile, according to the Viasna center, 1283 people remain in custody in Belarus, deprived of freedom for political reasons. Arrests and trials on politically motivated cases continue in the republic.
Since the summer of 2020, human rights activists have recognized almost 3600 people as political prisoners, including 656 women. Many of them have already been released, having fully served their sentences.
