2024.12.09

The ban was sanctioned by the country's Ministry of Justice at the request of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials

On Monday, President Yoon Suk-yeol was banned from traveling outside the country until the investigation into 'treason' and other charges related to the brief imposition of martial law last week is concluded, reported Yonhap agency.

The ban was imposed by the Ministry of Justice shortly after the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials filed a petition.

On Sunday, police searched the official residence and office of former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, after which he was placed under arrest. The police investigative team also obtained a court order to examine Kim's phone records, which include charges of treason as well as rebellion in accordance with military criminal law, officials said.

As part of efforts to expand the investigation into the failed declaration of martial law, the police stated that they would additionally deploy 30 officers to lead a special investigative team consisting of 150 people.
