The Ministry of Justice added former State Duma deputy Oleg Shein and former member of St. Petersburg's 'Yabloko' activist Vadim Vaganov to the registry of 'foreign agents'

They were accused of spreading 'false information' and collaborating with other 'foreign agents'

Former State Duma deputy from Astrakhan Oleg Shein, according to the Ministry of Justice, participated as an expert and respondent on the information platforms of 'foreign agents', and also took part in the creation and dissemination of 'foreign agents' materials. In addition, he spread 'false information about decisions made by public authorities and their policies'.

St. Petersburg activist Vadim Vaganov was also charged with participating in the activities of 'foreign agents', noting that he is an employee of a project that has already become a 'foreign agent'. At the same time, Vaganov, according to the agency, spread 'false information' exclusively about the Russian electoral system.

LLC 'Altair-2021' was removed from the registry due to the liquidation of the organization. The company was engaged in publishing books, magazines, newspapers, and conducting research in the field of humanities and social sciences.

The unified registry of 'foreign agents' has been maintained since December 1, 2022, and currently contains more than 888 entries. 'Foreign agents' must report their income, indicate labeling when publishing any material or post. In case of non-compliance with these requirements, 'foreign agents' are subject to administrative liability, and repeated administrative fines may lead to criminal liability. In February, the State Duma passed a law prohibiting the placement of advertisements with 'foreign agents'. 'Foreign agents' themselves are prohibited from participating in elections.
