Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree pardoning 32 Belarusian citizens convicted under articles on 'extremism', reported the Telegram channel 'Pul Pervogo'. Among those pardoned are eight women and 24 men, their names are not mentioned. It is claimed that all of them admitted their guilt, repented for their actions, and petitioned for a pardon.
17 people have chronic illnesses, one is disabled. 17 convicts have children, two of them are from large families. 9 pardoned individuals are over 50 years old.
This is the fifth pardon of Belarusian political prisoners this year. Since August, Lukashenko has released 128 people convicted of 'extremist' crimes. In total, according to the human rights center 'Viasna', more than 5,000 people involved in the 2020 protests have been convicted in Belarus.
As of November 6, 2024, at least 88 people have been convicted of 'treason against the state' in Belarus, including 13 women. This number is rapidly growing, nine months ago it was almost half as much.
