A resident of Tver, Ivan Kudryashov, sentenced to 4 years and 10 months in a case of "preparing to set fire" to a military enlistment office, is in a psychiatric hospital at Detention Center-1 in Smolensk, reported the human rights project "Zone of Solidarity". On October 24, the young man was transferred from a prison in Yelets, Lipetsk region, and the human rights advocates were unable to find out more. Only on November 15 did it become known about his presence in the psychiatric hospital.
In June of last year, the court sentenced Kudryashov to six years in prison, finding him guilty of "preparing for a terrorist attack". According to the investigation, the convicted was preparing to set fire to the Tver military enlistment office using Molotov cocktails. The bottles with incendiary mixture were found by law enforcement during searches of the Tver resident. None of them had his fingerprints. Kudryashov insisted that the Molotov cocktails did not belong to him.
On appeal, the sentence was reduced to four years and 10 months.
Kudryashov was detained on October 1, 2022, after which he reported torture. In June 2023, the activist declared a hunger strike in the detention center due to violations of his rights under arrest and the refusal of the detention center's head to meet with him. The young man maintained it for 40 days and stopped when the detention center administration decided to partially fulfill his demands.
After the sentencing in August 2023, Kudryashov was already placed in a psychiatric hospital. As reported by "Zone of Solidarity", after this, a letter came from the detention center on behalf of Kudryashov, written in someone else's handwriting. It spoke of "problems in the head" and a "nervous breakdown". Later, a lawyer managed to visit the prisoner in the hospital: he was restrained, and the doctors refused to say what and why they were treating him.
