The first reports of the UAV attack on Kaspiysk came from Telegram channels close to law enforcement, Shot, Mash and Baza. Later, this information was confirmed by the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov. «The circumstances of the incident are currently being clarified. An operational headquarters is working, and I am in constant contact with the responsible authorities. I want to assure you that all decisions will be made promptly for the safety of the republic's residents», — the official said.
This is the first instance since the start of Russia's war in Ukraine that drones have attacked Dagestan. Makhachkala airport temporarily suspended operations.
According to ASTRA*, photos and videos from the scene indicate that the drones attempted to attack the base of the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy. According to open sources, this base houses coastal troops, including marines. The flotilla has launched missile strikes on Ukraine, and the 177th Marine Regiment participated in battles in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The distance between Kaspiysk and the border with Ukraine is about 1500 kilometers.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the drone attack in Dagestan.
