Vladimir Putin appointed the former mayor of Krasnodar, State Duma deputy, and participant in the war in Ukraine, Evgeny Pervyshov, as the acting head of the Tambov region. He became the first governor in Russia who is a war participant.
Pervyshov was the mayor of Krasnodar since 2016. In September 2021, he became a State Duma deputy from «United Russia», and in November 2022, he went to the war in Ukraine as a volunteer.
After returning from the war, he underwent training in the personnel program «Time of Heroes», Putin's project for retraining former participants in the war with Ukraine into officials.
On November 5, deputies elected former military man Sergey Sechenov as the speaker of the city council, reported «TV2». He received 27 out of 30 votes from the deputies. Sechenov fought in Ukraine and was demobilized in August 2022 due to an injury. Initially, he talked about plans to return to the front, but later decided to enter politics.
Sechenov was elected to the city council in September, receiving 993 votes in a district with 13.2 thousand voters, meaning he received 7.5%. The by-election was held after the mandate was revoked from independent deputy and ally of Alexei Navalny* Andrey Fateev.
In Sechenov's official biography on the city council's website, it is stated that he has medals «For the Return of Crimea» and «Participant in the Military Operation in Syria». Together with a comrade, he organized the unit «Grom», which «participated in many combat operations, earning a notorious reputation with the Ukrainian Armed Forces». Sechenov was demobilized due to an injury, after which he began active participation in patriotic events for youth and engaged in politics. For example, he founded the «Association of SVO Veterans».
