The Sverdlovsk Regional Court found Danil Mukhametov guilty of 'treason' and sentenced him to 16 years in a high-security colony, as well as a fine of 300 thousand rubles, reports Sotavision*. During the debates, the prosecution requested 17 years of imprisonment for Mukhametov.
The trial was held behind closed doors. The case was presided over by Judge Andrey Mineev, who judged journalist The WSJ Evan Gershkovich.
Uralvagonzavod engineer Danil Mukhametov and his wife, who worked there as an operator, were accused of passing military information to Ukrainian special services, which, according to the investigation, could harm the Russian army during the 'SVO'. According to law enforcement, 'espionage items' were found in the apartment where the couple lived. During interrogation, Viktoria Mukhametova admitted to passing certain technical drawings to the Ukrainian side for a reward of 100,000 rubles.
Danil Mukhametov partially admitted guilt. His wife Viktoria's case was separated into a separate proceeding as she made a deal with the investigation and confessed. A month ago, she was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in a general regime colony.
