A Russian citizen, a native of Altai, Dmitry Shletgauer, died in a Belarusian colony. He was sentenced to 12 years under the article on "espionage," but spent less than a month in the colony, reports the human rights movement "Viasna." The cause of his death is unknown.
Dmitry Shletgauer was 22 years old. He was born in Altai and had been living in Belarus since 2018, where he worked at a packaging factory. He was detained last fall, and in the summer, the court found him guilty under articles on "espionage" and "aiding extremist activities" and sentenced him to 12 years. During the trial, Dmitry's child was born.
According to "Viasna," Dmitry's brother was detained with him and was deported to Russia.
According to "Viasna," this is already the seventh case of a political prisoner dying in Belarus. The publication Sota* claims that since the beginning of the repressions in 2020, 29 Belarusian activists have already died in prisons, detention centers, and during deportation.
