According to the 'Team Against Torture'*, on October 29, Musaeva was questioned by an investigator from the Investigative Committee regarding an alleged attack on a Federal Penitentiary Service officer who accompanied her on daily trips to the hospital. The woman herself does not know what this could be about — she did not commit any attack. Musaeva's lawyer is not yet aware of any criminal case being initiated.
'Another term will most likely be a death sentence for her,' emphasized the head of the 'Team Against Torture,' Sergey Babinets. Ten days ago, Musaeva was hospitalized for examination and treatment, but no stabilization of her condition has been reported yet.
Musaeva's sentence is supposed to end in March 2025. In the summer of 2023, she was sentenced to 5.5 years in a penal colony for fraud and assaulting a police officer. Later, the sentence was reduced to four years and nine months.
The European Court of Human Rights ruled that Musaeva was punished not for a crime but to intimidate her relatives. Zarema Musaeva is the wife of former Supreme Court judge of Chechnya, Saidi Yangulbaev, and the mother of Ibragim and Abubakar Yangulbaev, who run the opposition Chechen channel 1ADAT. Chechen security forces abducted the woman in Nizhny Novgorod in January 2022 and forcibly took her to her home region, where she was charged with fraud and assaulting a police officer — Zarema allegedly scratched his face.
