2024.10.31

In the summer, the Khimki court changed his preventive measure in the criminal case of threatening violence against a prosecutor from a ban on certain actions to arrest

«First Department»* citing lawyer Dmitry Sotnikov reported that on October 30, Idalov was detained in Chechnya. He was sent to Nalchik, from where he is likely to fly to Moscow to participate in the final statement at the trial on the «threat to the prosecutor» case. Human rights activists write that the arguments of the parties were conducted in Idalov's absence.

Lawyer Timur Idalov is accused under the article of threatening the use of violence against a government representative. In October 2022, he said to the prosecutor in one of the proceedings: «Are you Commissioner Cattani? That's how he was shot». The prosecutor saw a threat to his life in this comparison.

Idalov asked to transfer the case to the Chechen Republic, indicating that high-ranking officials involved in his prosecution could influence any court decisions in the Moscow region, moreover, he is registered in Chechnya, where key defense witnesses in the case also reside. The Supreme Court denied Idalov and sent the case to Khimki in the Moscow region.

On July 11, Idalov flew to Chechnya due to his mother's health problems, which he duly notified the supervisory authorities about. According to him, he planned to return home by 10 p.m. to not violate the ban on certain actions. However, Idalov felt unwell, and he himself was urgently hospitalized.

On July 15, the Khimki City Court in absentia sent Idalov to a pre-trial detention center and declared him wanted — despite the fact that the defendant's lawyer presented documents at the hearing that his client was in the hospital.

Timur Idalov represented the interests of human rights activist Lev Ponomarev*, Alikhan Belkhoreyev — one of the defendants in the case of the murder of the head of the Center «E» in Ingushetia, as well as Marat Kadyrov, involved in the case of the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergey Furgal.
