Markers of a tendency towards 'political extremism' include non-recognition of state authorities, support for unfriendly countries, and FBK*

Herzen RSPU issued methodological recommendations on how school teachers can recognize future 'extremists', the channel 'Caution, News' published specific fragments of the document.

Teachers are urged to monitor children's social media pages and the content of written works in literature. Among the markers of a tendency towards 'destructive behavior' in the article are posts about school shootings, bullying, suicides, and justification of terrorism. Markers of a tendency towards political extremism include 'non-recognition of state authorities and state holidays of the Russian Federation', 'emphasis on supporting Russia's geopolitical rivals', criticism of patriotic organizations, as well as statements in support of FBK and 'Open Russia'**. Another important sign of 'political extremism' is the non-recognition of referendums in annexed Crimea and occupied 'new regions'.

As stated in the document, the appearance of the recommendations is due to the fact that in 2022, Russia set a 'sad record' for recording 'extremist' crimes, and over 5 years, 70 cases of school shootings were recorded. The reasons for children's involvement in 'extremism' were named as family problems, propaganda of 'values alien to Russian and universal culture', wide access to the internet, and 'imposition of an anti-Russian radical identity'. Additionally, among the manifestations of 'political terror' in the recommendations is the strike on the drama theater in Mariupol.

For the prevention of terrorism, methodologists suggested organizing meetings with veterans of the SVO, recommending 'appealing to the images of ancestor-creators'. They also advise talking about the images of famous Russians and 'awakening historical memory' in children and youth in the 'new regions' — their formation of civic identity should rely on the 'image of the continuity of Russia's existence'.

*Recognized in Russia as an 'extremist' organization.
