The ombudsman sent another statement on the violation of the laws and customs of war to the UN and the Red Cross

On October 10, Russians shot nine Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region, reported analysts from the DeepState project, citing sources in the 1st OTBr. The report mentions the shooting of drone operators and their associates in the area of the settlement Zeleny Put. «Additional details of the circumstances are being clarified, but it is known that the guys went to positions thinking they were in a relative rear, but were already forced to engage with the enemy and returned fire. However, the amount of ammunition was limited, and they were forced to surrender,» reported DeepState.

«Such actions are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War,» stated Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, noting that he once again sent letters to the UN and the International Red Cross. «Russia is a terrorist state that violates all rules and customs of war. The international community should not turn a blind eye to such crimes,» added the ombudsman.

This is not the first case of Russians shooting Ukrainian prisoners. In early October, it became known that Russian military executed 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Pokrovske direction. Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers taken captive were lined up and shot, and those wounded who showed signs of life were finished off at close range with automatic fire.

Ukrainian soldiers also die in Russian captivity. The publication Politico, citing data from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, noted that at least 177 Ukrainian prisoners have died in Russian captivity since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
