«Radio Liberty»* will resume broadcasting on August 1, which was suspended in June

2025.07.30

Broadcasting was halted due to a lack of funding following the Trump administration's decision to freeze funds already allocated by Congress

On August 1, «Radio Liberty» will resume broadcasting on medium waves, which was suspended in June 2025 due to unfavorable budget circumstances, the media corporation reported.

Broadcasts on the 1386 KHz band will take place daily from 8:30 to 11:30 Moscow time. The program includes live news, analytical talk shows on current topics, interviews with experts and opinion leaders on politics, culture, social life; podcasts, the best from the Radio Liberty archive.

Despite the difficult financial situation, RFE/RL continues to operate by resorting to strict cost-saving measures: some employees have been sent on forced partially paid leave, hundreds of contracts with freelance authors have been canceled, the volume of content has been significantly reduced, and satellite radio broadcasting has been discontinued. The media corporation is seeking additional sources of funding, and as a result of these efforts, it has become possible to resume «Radio Liberty» broadcasting.

In March, the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) announced the freezing of approximately $75 million allocated by Congress for the media corporation's activities for the current fiscal year. This decision was made by the interim leadership of USAGM based on a directive from U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at eliminating inefficient spending of American taxpayers' money.

«Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty» challenged the legality of the USAGM leadership's actions in the federal district court in Washington regarding the funds already allocated by Congress.
